Firmware Upgrade Service
Note
For devices that are provisioned by PhoneNet you do not need to manually upgrade the firmware. We push out firmware centrally to devices once they have been tested with our platform.
Overview
PhoneNet operates a firmware upgrade service that allows you to upgrade your device’s firmware without receiving further configuration.
The service is available at the following URLs:
-
http://139.99.139.15 -
http://139.99.139.15:6970/ -
https://139.99.139.15 -
https://139.99.139.15:6971/ -
http://fw.phonenet.net -
http://fw.phonenet.net:6970/ -
https://fw.phonenet.net -
https://fw.phonenet.net:6971 -
The service is also available over TFTP at
tftp.phonenet.netor139.99.139.15.
Note
When accessing the IP address over TLS the certificate presented is signed by the PhoneNet Root CA. When accessing it using the hostname the certificate is signed by Lets Encrypt.
We currently have firmware for the following vendors with more coming soon.
All firmware versions on our service are listed in the table below.
Installing Firmware
Instructions on how to install the firmware differ based on the device, however generally speaking you will set the file or provisioning server to one of the above hosts as well as the path if required for the firmware version you want to install.
For some devices you will also need to ensure the signalling is set to the protocol you require (eg: SIP or H323 for Avaya devices, and SIP or MiNet for Mitel Devices).
Vendor Information
Avaya
For Avaya devices set your file server URL to one of the above hostnames, and ensure the signalling is set to the protocol you require firmware for if applicable to your device. Our service will also reset the admin/craft password to the default 27238 so if you are locked out of a device you can use your DHCP server to point the phone towards our server and gain access again.
For older 96xx series devices our service will also perform the step upgrade required to change from older firmware to the newer firmware with different signing algorithms. If you’re connecting an older device do not be alarmed if it appears to upgrade twice, as this is likely what’s happening.
For Avaya devices we install the most recent firmware available however we plan to allow you to select the firmware to be installed by changing the group ID on your device and will update this page once that is done.
Cisco
We have a variety of Cisco firmware versions available from early 7900 series devices to the current models.
At the moment our service will deliver the latest SIP software available however we are working on an enhancement to allow users to override this with their device’s MAC address which is being tracked in on our roadmap as PNET-226
SCCP firmware is not available at this time as we expect most people who use SCCP will be running Cisco Unified Communications Manager which has a built-in TFTP server.
The server also contains locale files for most countries, in addition to the default ringtone and desktop files.
Mitel / ShoreTel / Aastra
Warning
Installing the generic/third-party SIP firmware (6.2.x.xxxx) on Mitel/ShoreTel IP400 series devices is a one-way journey and it is not possible to revert to the Connect firmware (804.xxxx.xxxx.x) once you have done so.
We are experimenting to see if there is a procedure to do this, but if you expect to use the device with a Mitel
Connect service such as that provided by PhoneNet then do not install the generic SIP firmware on your device.
For Mitel, ShoreTel, and Aastra devices you need to set the upgrade/provisioning server to one of the above hostnames and ports. If a path is provided in the list of available firmware then that should also be configured in your device.
For 5300 series devices you can leave the path empty to receive the latest firmware. When we have additional firmware available we will specify a path to use if you need to downgrade.
All other Mitel device types require you to specify the firmware version you desire in the path.

If an Avaya 96x1 SIP device is running a version prior to 7.1.0.0 our server will automatically perform a step upgrade to bring it to 7.1.8.0 first. This is required as the signing keys changed from SHA1 to SHA2 and 7.1.8.0 is one of the transition releases. ↩ ↩2 ↩3 ↩4 ↩5

If an Avaya 96x1 H323 device is running a version prior to 6.6.1 our server will automatically perform a step upgrade to bring it to 6.6.1 first. This is required as the signing keys changed from SHA1 to SHA2 and 6.6.1 is the transition release. ↩ ↩2 ↩3 ↩4
